raced there.
It has a very important Baroque Festival in August, a full hippodrome (harness racing) and 27 hole golf course, French National Library in a restored Chateaux. The river is navigated by tour boats (dinner cruises), boats and houseboats are available for rent. Thee is a municipal pool (on the river) two blocks away as well as a park.
There is a larger hospital within two kilometers and all other services. The area is extremely picturesque though it is lacking in good hotels but not so in bakeries! The best is the Grand Hotel at the Abbaye but its rooms are very simple though the restaurant has excellent food.. Otherwise there is an Ibis chain hotel.
The Sarthe river stretches from LeMans to and empties into the Loire and one can go in either direction through a series of locks. And visit many other small town along the way. About three kilometers from this property is the Abbaye de Solesmes where the Gregorian chant began and is still chanted by monks every day. The abbaye is high up on a hill overlooking the Sarthe.
Tourists are primarily French, British and European with a scattering of Americans. English is no problem with a tourist office with English speakers within one block.
I would recommend renting a car either at the airport or in Paris or taking the TGV there to to LeMans (and from there renting a car. The property is about a fifteen minute walk from the train station or short taxi ride.
